Oppa Chicken is korean fried chicken and beer.  Fried chicken and beer has taken over HK and parts of China for the past year.  Oppa Chicken has 18 seats and it’s constantly busy.  I finally decided to brave the line up on a Thursday night.

Pickled radish and chopped lettuce.  Where’s my Kimchi?  The chopped lettuce/cabbage could have used more sauce.

Fresh Lemon Soju

It was a toss up between the yogurt soju (which we know to be good) and the fresh lemon soju.  We went with the fresh lemon to keep the drink refreshing.  It arrived glowing blue.  Hypnotiq or Alizee?  Stick with yogurt soju next time.  This was one of the few times where I could not finish the alcohol and I generally never let it go to waste.  The only thing fresh about it was the slice of lemon.

The creamy corn is a signature dish.  It was creamy and it did taste of corn.  It lacked the overpowering butter taste of most creamy corn dishes.  It’s a signature dish where one could easily reproduce at home.  Skip.

Another signature dish, baked cheese.  It’s good.  Give it a try.  It is tough to find fault with baked fat and salt.

This is the highlight: fried chicken in the Korean method.  The hot & spicy chicken arrived covered in sauce.  Skip.  The original recipe is good.  Very similar to NA’s KFC so the spice pack was delicious with salt/pepper and ketchup to dip.  I suspect they double fry it to give it good crunch.  The type of crunch that could easily sear the top of your mouth if you are not careful.  3 pieces of breast meat, 3 chicken wings with the tip on and 2 drumsticks.  I would have thought they used one whole chicken.

It’s the perfect meal for HKU students.  It is very affordable with large portions.  Protein.  $158 for a bucket of chicken is cheap as the bird alone would be over $100.  It’s $120 for the bird at the bbq stands and at Oppa they dry it up to you.  I would give Oppa another whirl if I happen to be in the mood for korean fried chicken.  It has yet to come close to beating Philippine fried chicken which is still king.
