7-11, 759, Circle K, parknshop and Wellcome are great for cheap beers but when entertaining visiting friends, everyone will want to check out the local craft beers.  Young Master Ales makes great beers but they are only available in keg form and this time around I didn’t feel like paying $70/beer.  Luckily a new gourmet shop decided to focus on craft beers among other high end gourmet items, it’s across the street from the new Cadogan development.  GOV.  Gourmet on Victoria.  Douglas is the purveyor of this shop and he has been fine tuning the selection of the last few months.  The wines don’t sell well so craft beers will be the focus.

They are running a special right now, for every 6 beers you buy you will receive 20% off.  It’s a great way to spend a lazy sunday afternoon away from the hustle of Rugby 7s.  It would also be a great venue to start a beer/pub crawl as they host a wide selection that would be perfect for everyone.  It will cost a little more than the usual tsing taos but it breaks the monotony of putting the same liquids into the body.

You don’t fly all the way to HK to drink USA and Canadian craft beers so it was great to see a ample selection of the Hong Kong stuff.  $29/bottle

Hong Kong Beer Co’s Gambler’s Gold. It’s a nice take on the Gambling genre of movies but woefully lacking in taste

Hong Kong Beer Co’s Amber Lager – their signature beer. It’s light tasting, too light for a craft beer

Hong Kong Beer Co’s Sevens Stout. My first taste of Hong Kong Beer Co.

My first tasting of Hong Kong Beer Co., their stout.  It lacks the dept of Guinness.  I notice one thing with Hong Kong Beer Co’s offerings, everything is light tasting.  It lacks the surprise you come to expect on tasting craft beers.

No craft beer store will be complete without the offering from the craft beer that started it all – small production made by Belgian monks.

The bottle and toffee pudding caught my gf’s eye.  It wasn’t too sweet.  More yeasty than another else.2015-03-29 16.03.46 (1)

London Black Cab Stout. I’m a sucker for packaging.

I drank a whole bunch of beers on a Sunday afternoon.  I did not puke on myself so all in all it was a wonderful time.  Mention this blog at GOV and get an even bigger discount.  They take credit card and octopus making it easier to run a large tab.  There’s also a large foot massage place next door that will keep the feet happy.
