A Minsu is Taiwan’s answer for our bed and breakfast, boutique motels with theme rooms.  Taiwan has a large number of minsus ranging from the hourly variety to the host playing tour guide and setting your itinerary.  There are quite a few in the big cities that can give the big hotel chains a run for their money.  For the last trip to Taipei, my gf decided we should try this cottage industry and go local.  I had the pleasure of staying at WXYz – Woolloomooloo Xin Yi snooZe.  This place can take on motels.  There are 3 floors, first floor is a restaurant and deli, second floor is the living quarters and third floor is art gallery and office space.  The second floor is the minsu.  6 rooms in total, 4 of the rooms can sleep 2 people while the 2 larger rooms can sleep 3-4.  $4400/night for the small rooms, $8800/night for the big rooms.  6 rooms in total.

Big Room – dark and light photo.  One gets upgraded to a real big boy bed.  Kitchen feature is off to the side of the shower so there’s no need to use the communal dining hall.

Communal Dining Hall – tv , refrigerator, stove, pots, pans, kettle and most creature comforts to make your own food.  They put a few beers in the refrigerator to welcome guests.  Nice personal touch.

Another view.  One can make food to eat in front of the TV.

The smaller room, tatami mats make for a cooler option to beat the TW heat.  It’s the history of the Japanese influence.  The washroom layout is very reminiscent of the W Taipei.  Blue tiles all around with Aesop products for use.  Thick towels too.  The Aesop products are a nice touch.  Don’t get use to using it as Aesop products are bloody expensive.  I should have packed it with me, alas, the products were not of the travel size variety.

Book early as they only have 6 rooms in total.  It is the perfect venue to host bachelor and bachelorette parties.  There are only 6 rooms so it’s easy for one party to book out the whole place.  It is in XinYi district, walking distance to all the trendy night spots and in the middle of all the action.  There is a street market within a 2 block radius and their restaurant attachment being in the same building makes for an easy dining option when you are hungover.
