Yoshinoya is a chain of Japanese fast food restaurants serving predominantly meat and rice.

I ordered the beef bowl in the hopes of uncovering the reason behind Yoshinoya’s success.  The beef bowl is their signature dish.  It consists of thinly sliced beef (blanched in soup), a hidden portion of onions and bean sprouts and rice.  I suspect the onions and bean sprouts are there to help with digestion.  Everything lacked flavour to bind everything together.  Soy sauce, chilli oil and anything strong tasting would have helped in this instance.  I would even make do with vinegar if it was available.

I would not venture back into another Yoshinoya chain.  It only cost $20 HKD during tea time but McDonalds taste better and it’s only $1 for the extra value meal.  McDonalds > Yoshinoya in this instance.  Yoshinoya serves a heavy meal for a low price.
